When your computer starts misbehaving, it can be hard to tell whether it just needs a tidy-up or a proper repair. At Macc Tech Repair, we help customers across Macclesfield, Bollington, Alderley Edge and the surrounding Cheshire area spot the difference before small issues turn into big (and expensive) problems.
1. Constant crashes and freezes
If your PC is crashing or freezing regularly, it’s usually a sign something deeper is wrong, not just digital clutter.
When you’re seeing blue screens, random restarts, or complete lockups even during light use, that often points to failing hardware or serious software conflicts that need proper diagnostics from a technician.
2. Overheating and loud fan noise
A bit of fan noise is normal, but a computer that runs hot and sounds like a jet engine all day needs attention.
If your PC or laptop feels very hot to the touch, the fans never seem to slow down, or it randomly shuts down to “protect” itself, that can indicate cooling issues, faulty fans or deeper hardware problems that should be checked before they cause permanent damage.
3. Sudden, severe slowdown
Most machines get slower over the years, but a sudden drop in performance is a red flag.
If everyday tasks like opening folders, launching your browser, or logging in suddenly take ages, or you hear clicking or grinding from the machine, this can mean your hard drive or other components are starting to fail and need more than a simple cleanup.
4. Display glitches or no picture
Strange visuals are rarely fixed by running a cleaner app.
Flickering screens, random blackouts, coloured lines or blocks on the display, or “no signal” messages when the PC is clearly on can all point to graphics card issues, loose or damaged connections, or motherboard faults that require hands-on testing.
5. Startup errors and boot problems
When your computer struggles to start, it’s often calling out for help.
If Windows keeps failing to boot, gets stuck in an endless “repair” loop, shows “no boot device found,” or only starts after several attempts, that’s a strong sign of system corruption or failing storage that should be looked at quickly to protect your data.
